BRICS has an environmental interest

Environment and geographical location have an impact on climate which may indirectly drive international trade and business to preferred global locations.   BRICS understands that climate change is a serious concern.

Serous enough that Union Environment Minister Anil Dave stated in a fall conference that “Sudden remedies for climate change are not possible. In the longer run, we see unpredictable changes in atmosphere, especially in the behavior of the sea, crop patterns.”

He continued such that “I am happy to inform you that we have agreed that each and every water body or each and every river of the country must be preserved properly so that safe, clean drinking water should be available to the entire society.”

These words signify that BRICS is committed to establish a standard for innovations, knowledge sharing and capacity building of technical institutions and undertake ownership in areas environmental interest.

  1. As I mentioned in one of my posts, water is the life force for everything on the plant. Having safe drinking water for the entire society is critical in its sustainability, but we can not forget that the same rivers that drinking water is taken from are the same that provide important transportation means to ship goods globally. Any time you introduce something foreign to water, you run the risk of contamination. This has been an ongoing issue that we have seen with major oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico and the major one in Alaskan waters. These unfortunate events have global impacts and an unfortunate part of the risks involved with transportation by water. Mitigating these risks can be costly, but to ensure that the quality of water is not reduced, is vital to the sustainability of a country and the world.

  2. Conserving our lakes, rivers, and oceans gets rather tricky sometimes. Not only do these bodies of water supply us with drinking water, they also support transportation and wildlife. As Dustin noted above, when you introduce a foreign substance to the water, you risk contamination. You also risk killing the wildlife that lives in that water, uses it for survival, or that man fishes for their own survival or wages. While I applaud them for wanting to save our rivers and lakes, I also am fearful of the consequences involved.

  3. I think this is an amazing 1st step in water sustainability. I sincerely hope that there is a safe and equitable plan placed on this to be implemented " Properly". Sacha B.
